Quality Monitoring & Surveillance
Quality surveillance of pharmaceutical and biological drugs for human or veterinary use is performed by Division of Quality Assurance & Laboratory Testing (QA<). Consistency in quality of drugs is of paramount importance. Division of QA< is linked to Divisions of Drug Licensing, PE&R and BE&R for ensuring that quality standards are followed during the manufacturing and entire life-cycle of a product.
Good manufacturing practices as per schedule B-II of The Drugs (Licensing, Registering & Advertising) Rules, 1976 are ensured by Division of QA<. GMP compliance inspections of all manufacturers are performed.
Issuance of GMP certificate

For Quality testing
There are two laboratories for quality testing of pharmaceutical and biological drugs for human or veterinary use.
Central Drug Laboratory (CDL) is an ISO certified laboratory for chemical analysis and microbiological testing of pharmaceutical drugs. It is situated in Karachi and it is fully equipped to test quality of drugs.
National Control Laboratory for Biologicals (NCLB), Islamabad issues lot release certificates and performs analysis and microbial testing on biological drugs.
